About Toroslar
Toroslar is one of Mersin's four central districts and takes its name from the Taurus Mountains to its north. Established in 2008, it borders Akdeniz to the south, Yenişehir and Mezitli to the west, and Tarsus and Çamlıyayla to the east, with Karaman Province's Ayrancı district to the north. It reaches from the city centre up onto the slopes and highland pastures of the Taurus; the town of Gözne and the plateaus around it lie in this northern part.
Yumuktepe Mound in the district is an important archaeological site, as it was inhabited continuously from the Neolithic period. Medieval fortresses stand in the mountainous north: Gözne Castle sits on steep cliffs at an elevation of 1,085 m, and the Çandır and Hebilli castles are in the same part of the district. In terms of transport, the Mersin Intercity Bus Terminal (MEŞOT) has stood in the Korukent neighbourhood since 2015, and the Mersin City Training and Research Hospital is in the same neighbourhood, at the Mersin Integrated Health Campus.
